Dearest gentle reader,
It has come to this author’s attention that society insists on pretending conservatives and liberals are species so foreign they cannot possibly share the same air, much less the same hopes. How dramatic. How exhausting. How… incorrect.
Yes, there are extremists on both sides. Those who shout the loudest; clutch pearls the hardest, and mistake outrage for virtue. But let us be clear: they are not the norm. They are simply loud assholes with microphones and far too much free time.
Most people—left, right, and somewhere awkwardly between—want remarkably similar things. Safe communities. Dignity. Opportunity for their children. A future that doesn’t feel like a constant state of emergency. The scandal, dear reader, is not what we want. It’s that we disagree with how to get there.
And that, dear reader, is where Indivisible Uwharrie enters the ballroom.
Not as a battleground, but as a gathering space. A place where curiosity is welcome, humanity is assumed. Where conversations require neither purity tests nor loyalty oaths. A space in the middle—beautiful, intentional, and stubbornly hopeful—where disagreement doesn’t mean disrespect, and progress doesn’t require dehumanization.
So, before you write off your neighbor as the enemy, consider this: you may be dancing to the same music, simply counting the steps differently.
Yours in truth and a touch of rebellion,
The Dutchess of Democracy
